SOUTH BARRE - Barbara Helen McMahon, 76, of Barre, Vermont, passed away on October 8, 2024. Born in Franklin, New Hampshire, she graduated from Franklin High School in 1966 and began her career in data entry at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Vermont. Her hard work and determination led her to become the Executive Director at Electronic Data Systems (EDS), where she was known for her integrity and leadership. She was the daughter of Mabel Smith and James Frye, both of whom predeceased her. Barbara was a valued member of Barre Evangelical Free Church, where she founded compassion ministries, providing meals and support to those in need. She organized winter clothing and school supply drives, embodying her generous spirit and deep commitment to helping others. During the devastating floods in Barre in 2023, Barbara mobilized efforts to feed thousands of volunteers, demonstrating her unwavering dedication to her community. Barbara loved family vacations to York Beach, Maine, where she enjoyed morning walks on the beach and indulging in lobster with her family. Known for her warmth and hospitality, Barbara loved hosting large gatherings, feeding and bringing together family and friends at her home for over 40 years. A brilliant self-trained painter, her artwork will continue to grace the homes of many family and friends. She is survived by her beloved husband, Martin McMahon; her siblings, James and Cheryl Frye, Steve and Martha Wadsworth; and her cherished children, Christopher, Daryl, and Nancy White, Hilary, Lindsey, and Stephen Davis. She was a proud grandmother to Robyn, Arianna, Cassidy, Alex, Sarina, Gabrielle, Levi, Silas, Lydia, and Ezra. Barbara will be remembered as a kind-hearted, loving mother, grandmother, and wife, whose impact on the lives of those around her will never be forgotten. Her legacy of kindness and service will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. A celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, October 17th, at 5:30 PM at Barre Evangelical Free Church, with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to support the compassionate ministries program at Barre Evangelical Free Church, located at 17 South Main Street, Barre, VT 05641.
