Edna A. Corliss

EAST MONTPELIER-Edna A. Corliss passed away on Saturday, September 21,2024 at Central Vermont Medical Center with her youngest son, James, at her side. Edna was the 9th of 11 children born to Clarence and Anna (Gifford] Campbell, in Bethel, VT on 02.20.1935. Edna had the benefit of living in several small towns during her childhood, spending time in Huntington, Bolton, Montpelier, and Royalton. She often shared stories of her years growing up in these small towns. She worked at the National Clothespin Factory, and the Waterbury State hospital prior to meeting her husband of 61 years, Bernard A. Corliss. At that point they settled in East Montpelier and raised 5 children. When the children were older Edna returned to work at Reddy Plastics and then Vermont Plastics, where she ran an injection molding machine creating baby pins, Pez dispensers, and pacifiers. In 1996 they purchased a camp at Campbell’s Bay in Swanton where they spent weekends for years, and entire summers once she retired from Berlin Health and Rehabilitation’s childcare program in 2005. Edna enjoyed puzzles, dancing, time with friends, campfires, knitting, taking her family to breakfast, and maple creemees. She and Bernard enjoyed taking long drives with snacks, exploring back roads. Most recently she enjoyed visits with her nieces Sharon and Carol, and trips to the Twin Valley Senior Center. Edna had the greenest thumb with houseplants and kept a large number of plants growing in her small house, causing family to joke about the jungle that grew around her. Edna is survived by her 5 children: Brenda (Steve) Bolio, Bernie Corliss, David (Louise) Corliss, Vickie (Richard) LaRose, and James Corliss, 5 grandchildren, Craig (Kristen) Bolio, Zachary and Samara LaRose, Juliana and Jaden Corliss. Numerous nieces and nephews, and one sister-in-law, Edna (Frank) Campbell. She was predeceased by her parents, all of her siblings: Elisha (Shirley) Campbell, Eugene Campbell, Marion (Richard) Booska, Hiram Campbell, Clarence (Sylvia) Campbell, George (Marion) Campbell, Clara (Max) Martin, Arlene Campbell, Albert (Betty) Campbell, and Frank Campbell, and several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to the American Cancer Society in Edna’s honor, as she survived three different cancers in her lifetime. The family sends appreciation to the CVMC emergency crew for their skill, and compassion shown in our mother’s final minutes. We will gather on October 19, 2024, at The Den, 110 Business Center Rd in Williamstown at 11:00-3:00 to honor Edna’s life and share memories. Arrangements are in the care of Pruneau-Polli Funeral Home at 58 Summer Street in Barre.
