Kathryn A. Wasik

WILLIAMSTOWN- Kathryn Wasik passed away at home with family by her side on May 10, 2024. Family was her world from the very start. Being the second oldest, she was fiercely loyal and protective of her 3 sisters and 2 brothers. Family gatherings were always the best when the siblings recounted their outlandish childhood escapades, often shocking their mother with new stories. They were true life Little Rascals and could make each other laugh like no other. Her loyalty and fierce dedication only grew when she started her own family with her husband Gene. She encouraged her children to try new things and was a great supporter of their endeavors. She once admitted to feeling a tug of guilt as a graduate of Spaulding High School to be cheering for Montpelier teams, but said her children were more important. Known as Kathryn to her family and Kathy to friends and colleagues, she was a private and dignified person. She took great pleasure in her dog Kit, golf, gardening, jazz music, nature and political debate. Her greatest pleasures in life were her grandchildren, Parker and Avery who spent many a magical childhood weekend steeped in grandparent love and fun adventures and John and Alex who she dearly wished lived closer. She enjoyed her years teaching, first briefly at Barre Town Elementary school and then the rest of her career at Union Street Elementary School in Montpelier. She spoke of former students and colleagues with great respect and fondness. She is predeceased by her parents, James and Shirley Aitchison, brothers James Aitchison and Daniel Aitchison, and her most devastating loss, her son Mark Wasik. Survivors are her husband of 65 years Eugene (Gene), daughter Mary Jean and her husband Rob, son Peter, grandchildren Parker and wife Caroline, Avery, John, Alex, sisters Mary Ann, Shirley, Virginia and many nieces and nephews. There will be no calling hours and a private family burial will be held at a later time. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to an animal rescue of your choice, in honor of Kathy and Gene's very good girl Kit or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis TN 38105 to honor her lifelong passion for the wellbeing of children.
