Monique (Gagne) Alzaga

BARRE-It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Monique Gagne Alzaga, who left us on February 5, 2025 at the age of 90. Monique is survived by her devoted husband Rudy Alzaga with whom she shared nearly 65 joyful years of marriage. Monique leaves behind her two children, whom she loved dearly, Laurie (Alzaga) Lind, married to Tom Lind of Naples FL, and Paul Alzaga of Barre, VT. Her cherished grandson Gavin Lind was a source of immense pride and joy in her life. She also leaves a special sister-in-law Renie Alzaga of Barre, VT, and her older sister, Yvette Zampieri of Barre, VT, they shared a special bond of friendship and sisterhood over a lifetime, her caring and love for Monique never wavered. Monique leaves many cherished nieces and nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her father Joseph Gagne and her mother, Rose Anna (Gagne) Lemieux and her step-father Levi Lemieux. Monique also faced the loss of her siblings, including two brothers, Joseph and Rosaire Gagne and two sisters, Gabrielle Joyal-Chartier and Margarite (Peggy) Walters-Oistros. Step-sisters and step-brothers Mary Paul Campeau, Lucille Campeau, Claire Aja (Nicanor) and Leonel Lemieux and Isadore Lemieux. Monique was born on November 11, 1934, in Plainfield, Vermont. After graduating from Spaulding High School in 1952, Monique began her career in the granite industry, starting at Beck and Beck. Later, she took on a managerial role with Tupperware, where her remarkable ability to connect with people translated into a successful sales career. She concluded her working journey at Impala Granite where she retired. Beyond her work, Monique dedicated herself to her faith and community. Volunteering at St. Monica Church where she was a parishioner for her entire life, she embodied the true meaning of service. As a longtime member of the Catholic Daughters, she valued fellowship, unity, and charity, contributing both her time and compassion to those in need. In addition, Monique enjoyed working at The Rock of Ages visitor center, welcoming guests with her ever-patient smile and storytelling flair. Monique’s life was a tapestry woven with love, literature, and cherished memories. Many mornings began with her settling into the kitchen, a cup of coffee in hand, as she immersed herself in the pages of her favorite books. This ritual not only fueled her imagination but also set a serene tone for her day. In the evenings, her routine was equally pleasurable, as she and Rudy would relax in the den, where laughter and conversations were shared along with the nightly Manhattan they enjoyed together at precisely 5:00 p.m. Those quiet moments were infused with an effervescent happiness, marking the end of another day filled with simple joys in her life. A vibrant smile never left Monique’s face. She had a unique ability to connect with everyone she encountered, never meeting a stranger, only potential friends who could become part of her ever-growing life story. Calling hours will be held at the Pruneau Polli Funeral Home at 58 Summer Street, Barre, VT on Monday, February 17, 2025 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Monica Catholic Church, 79 Summer Street Barre, VT at 11:00 a.m. on February 18, 2025. In honor of Monique’s life, a reception will be held at The Canadian Club 414 E. Montpelier Road, Barre, VT immediately following the funeral service. Inviting all whose lives she touched to share their memories or raising a Manhattan to the remarkable woman we were privileged to know. Arrangements are in the care of Pruneau-Polli Funeral Home in Barre.
