Raymond Messier Jr.

Northfield-Raymond R. Messier Jr., 60, passed away January 1st, 2022 at his home in Northfield Vermont. Born on June 23rd, 1961 in Hartford Connecticut, he was the son of Raymond Messier Sr, and Pauline (Beauvais) Messier.  He attended Northfield Vermont schools, prior to his departure to join the National Guard where he proudly served his country. Raymond, known best by family and friends as Ray, was a lifetime Northfield resident, and worked for local businesses most of his life, including Green Mountain Heritage Inc and Sweet Retreat, Barry T. Chouinard Inc., Depot Square Pizzeria, and most recently, Darn Tough Vermont where he made many connections, and shared many laughs. He was a loving father, grandfather, friend, and life partner. An avid outdoorsman with a passion for wildlife and foraging, and a very talented pastry chef and baker. Raymond would regularly be found working in his garden, baking fresh bread and pastries, and smoking cheese blocks to share with his family and friends. Beyond all, Ray loved spending time with his four beautiful grandchildren, who endearingly referred to him as "Papa". Ray is survived by his loving partner, Heather Grant of Northfield, his Son Nathan Messier of Graniteville, VT, stepsons; Jonathan and Justin Finsen of Northfield, and Jacob Finsen of Sitka, AK, his mother, Pauline Covey of Berlin, four beautiful grandchildren; Wyatt Raymond and Amelia Rose Messier of Graniteville, Soren Grant Finsen of Northfield, and Hazel Jacqueline Brooks of Sitka AK, six siblings; John Messier, and his partner Tammy of Bethel, Sue Amell of Bethel, Diana Ashford and her partner Arnold of Marshfield, Barbara Roya of Barre, Christine Bell of Northfield, and Judy Wright of Burlington, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his father Raymond Sr, of Northfield, and stepson Jesse Finsen of Northfield Following his wishes, there will be no formal services. At a future time and place, a small celebration of his life will take place with immediate family and close friends.
