CABOT-Bradley Henry LaPan, 63, of Cabot, Vermont, passed away peacefully on April 27, 2025, at Dartmouth, surrounded by his loving family — just days before his shared birthday with the love of his life, his wife Lesly (born April 30, 1962).
Brad was born in Barre, Vermont, and lived a life full of heart, humor, and an unstoppable passion for classic cars. While working as a mechanic in Florida, his life changed forever when he met Lesly; it only took a few dates and he was asking her to marry him. Their honeymoon took them to Cabot, Vermont — the place where Bradley’s roots ran deep — and it became not just a memory, but their future. Every summer, they camped on a cherished piece of land on Lovely Road, and eventually, they brought the family there permanently, building a life surrounded by the hills he loved. Brad and Lesly enjoyed classic car shows together and when they decided to invest in a 62 Chevy Biscayne, Brad was always very proud to jokingly announce- I have a classic car the same age as my beautiful wife.
Brad was the proud father of son, Bradley Donald LaPan who he always called “Hot Rod” and daughter, Darci Lou Showalter, and father-in-law to Edward E. Showalter. His greatest joy came from his grandchildren — Cheyenne, Matthew, Robert, Aiden, and Alice — each one lighting up his life in a unique way.
Those who knew Brad will remember his twinkling eyes whenever he was near a vintage car, his hands always busy under the hood, and his heart always open to those around him. He had a sharp wit and loved “rattling the cages” of his family and friends just to get a rise out of them — especially with his famous words: “Think snow.” Whether teasing, laughing, or offering a helping hand, Brad’s presence filled every room with warmth and a little bit of mischief.
Brad wished for a very small, immediate family gathering on his land, where his remains will be buried next to his best friend and loyal companion, Lucky Buck. While no public service will be held, the family invites all who knew and loved him to honor his memory in their own way. Take a slow drive down a country road, remember Brad with a smile, and hold your loved ones a little closer.
