Conrad L. White

BARRE TOWN - Conrad L. White, 92, of Windridge Drive, passed away December 29, 2023, at the Central Vermont Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Barre on February 28, 1931, he was the son of Harold and Alice (Bisson) White. He attended St. Monica Graded School and graduated from Spaulding High School in 1949. After graduation he served in the Vermont National Guard and enlisted in the army and was stationed in Korea from 1952 - 1954. He was later employed by the Marchant Calculator Company and then the Eastman Kodak Company for thirty years. On April 21, 1956, he married Beatrice Gauthier at St. Augustine church in Montpelier. They made their home in Barre Town until his passing. Conrad and Bea purchased a camp in North Hero in 1964 next to his parents. Many days were spent with his children, which included fishing, swimming, boating, and visiting the many beaches on Lake Champlain. He also enjoyed the many sailing adventures with his brother-in-law, Dr. Calef Heininger and fishing trips to Maine. On one of his trips with Tino Acebo and Homer Fitts, while fishing off the coast of Maine, he would have the opportunity to meet George H. W. Bush, 41st President of the United States. The President was out that day for a boat ride and was curious what they were catching. In 1985, Conrad obtained his Captain’s license and started “Island Charters” with his son Jay, a sport fishing charter service on Lake Champlain and Lake Ontario, NY. After his retirement in 1991, Conrad and Bea spent their summers in North Hero and wintered in Florida at Cocoa Beach. Ice fishing was replaced by fishing off the beach as well as watching shuttle launches from Cape Canaveral. He was a member of Saint Monica Parish, and a life member of the Barre Elks Lodge #1535, the American Legion Post #10 and VFW Post 790. Conrad is survived by his wife Bea of 67 years of marriage, his son Lee White and his wife, Lisa (Charpentier) White, his daughter Michele Campo and her husband, Robert, and son Jay White, all of Barre Town. His grandson Kevin Campo and his wife Shelby, and their three children Tessa, Lexington, and Jameson. Sisters Lorraine Aja of Barre, Gloria Heininger of Williston and Corienne Pasqual of Burlington and sister-in-law Avis Gauthier of Graniteville. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, In-laws Raymond & Noella Gauthier, brothers-in-law Donald Pasqual, Jerry Aja, Dr.Calef Heininger, John Gauthier and brother-in-law Marcel Gauthier and his wife Jeanine. A Mass of Christian Burial and celebration of his life will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, May 25, 2024, at St. Monica Catholic Church in Barre. Calling hours will be the same morning at Pruneau-Polli Funeral Home, 58 Summer St. in Barre, from 9:00 – 10:30 am. Internment will occur at a later date at the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Randolph Center. The family would like to thank the medical staff at the Central Vermont Medical Center for the care and support they provided. A special thanks to Kim Bigelow, RN, a close friend of the family, for her care and compassion while he was in palliative care. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Silver Towers Camp of the Vermont Elks Association or Veterans of Foreign Wars.
