BARRE – Elvira (Vera) F. Scucces, 98, passed away peacefully at her Barre home on July 23, 2025.
Vera was born on October 28, 1926, in New Haven, Connecticut to Vincenzo and Giuseppina (Modica) Fede. She attended East Haven High School and graduated in 1944. Upon graduation, Vera worked as a secretary for an architectural firm in New Haven. After her marriage to Joseph Scucces in 1950, she blossomed into a dedicated and creative homemaker.
A woman of deep faith, she was very involved in her church community and served as a sacristan for the St. Vincent de Paul parish for many years. Vera’s passions included reading (mystery novels being her favorite genre), crossword puzzles, and watching the many British comedies and mystery series aired by Vermont Public Television.
Vera is survived by her daughter Adrianne Scucces and nephews Vincent Fede and Ernest Fede Jr.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest Fede Sr. (brother), C. Joseph Scucces (husband), Barry F. Driscoll (son-in-law), and Thomas Girardi (dear family companion).
Calling hours will take place on Friday, August 1, from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm at Pruneau-Polli Funeral Home in Barre. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on August 1 at 1:00 pm at St. Monica Church in Barre.
