Gladys A. Prindiville

East Barre – Gladys A. Prindiville, 84, of East Barre, passed away peacefully on August 29, 2024, at Barre Gardens in Berlin, surrounded by her beloved family. Gladys was born on December 31, 1939, in Manchester, NH, to the late Gordon Lee Brewer and Julia Jaskolka Brewer Monk. Her father, Gordon, passed away at the young age of 37. She was the second of three siblings, predeceased by her sisters Mrs. Josephine Tonas (2005) and Miss Mary Burrows (1984). Gladys was deeply in love with Thomas Prindiville, her husband of 64 years, who passed away six months and two weeks prior to her. She often recounted their charming first meeting at a coffee shop, where her nerves caused her to spill coffee into the saucer.A devoted homemaker, Gladys’ world revolved around her children and grandchildren. Family was everything to her. She and Thomas, who moved to Barre, Vermont in 1978, with their eight children and later opened their hearts and home to three additional children: Kim Zajan (Burrows), Judy Burrows, and Jim Burrows. Gladys worked at Sprague Electric for a short time, she was a hard worker, a strong woman and good with money. She could negotiate a deal and get the best price and there was no budging this lady! She held her ground. Her family will fondly remember her beautiful flower beds, which she lovingly tended. She took great joy in her plants and often found solace in her garden. They were absolutely beautiful! Though dedicated to her family Gladys, an avid bingo player, enjoyed the thrill of the game. You might find her in the Bingo halls of the Mutuo or Canadian Club. Boy, she loved those rip off tickets! She used to say "God if you let me win this one time". And lo and behold she would hit the jackpot! She was also skilled in sewing, knitting, and crafts, often selling her creations at craft shows and delighting in conversations with everyone she met. Gladys’s heart was not only filled with love for her family but for others. Her selflessness extended beyond her family; she dedicated her time to serving the elderly at Barre Gardens, delivering medication to the housebound, and giving away her crafts to those in need. Most recently a large family at church brought her such joy to see, obviously reminding her of her own. She sought out the hats and mittens she made to give to them and then worked tirelessly to put candy crafts together for them. A beautiful selfless spirit is greatly missed. Gladys was predeceased by her husband Thomas F. Prindiville, her son Stephen C. Prindiville (1978), and her son, Private Thomas F. Prindiville, Jr., United States Army (1982). She is survived by her children Julia Prindiville (Terry L. Deaumler) and their son Kyle T. Deaumler of Hawthorne, Florida; Deborah A. Prindiville of Barre, Vermont; Suzanne M. Prindiville (Paula Trotter) of West Windsor, Vermont; Bryan Prindiville of Lake Worth, Florida; Jake T. Prindiville (Arne Baier) of Hawthorne, Florida; and Melissa (Missy) J. Prindiville (Allan Machia), and her son Corporal Cecil T. Freeman, United States Army, of Berlin, Vermont. She also leaves behind her nephew James Burrows, and nieces Judy Burrows and Kimberly (Burrows) Zajan (Jay Zajan). Calling Hours will be held on Friday, September 6, 2024, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, at Pruneau-Polli Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate Glady’s life will be held at St. Monica Church on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at 11:00 am. Arrangements are in the care of Pruneau-Polli Funeral Home, 58 Summer Street in Barre.
