Judith I. Patterson

March 13, 1948 — June 8, 2025

BARRE-Judith I. Jacobs Patterson, of Barre, passed away peacefully on June 8, 2025, in Berlin.
Bom on March 13, 1948, to Alice M. and Lloyd G. Jacobs, in New Bedford,
Massachusetts.

Her early years were spent attending schools in Bourne and Buzzards
Bay, Massachusetts, before moving with her family to Vermont in 1959. Judy attended
Stowe Public Schools and graduated from Stowe High School in 1967 and Burdett
College, in Boston, in 1969. She returned to Vermont after college for the remainder of
her years. It was there she met her first husband, Lee W. Sturtevant. They were
married and made their home in Morrisville where they raised two beautiful children,
Karyn and Joshua.

Judy wore many hats during her life, the two most important to her
were being an advocate for children with disabilities and being a mom/grandmother.
Over the years, her fierce advocacy work was both beyond amazing and endless, and
even included a run for House of Representatives. Judy blazed a trail for others to
follow early on with her creation of the Vermont Federation of Families. This not-for-
profit organization brought her advocacy knowledge and experience to families all over
the state (and nation) to create a program of care and support for children with
disabilities, their families and support staff. She was truly a mom to all. Later in life,
after her children were grown, she went back to school to further her education in
human services. Judy would give the shirt off her back to help anyone and everyone
she could.

It was also later in life that she met her second husband, Mark Patterson.
They made their home in Barre along with all their rescue dogs. Judy (Grammie)
adored all her grandchildren (the apples of her eye) and her many nieces and nephews.

Judy enjoyed reading, going to her grandchildren’s sporting events and plays, concerts,
rescuing dogs, and listening to her Beatles and Eagles songs right up until the time she
passed away. She passed her love of the ocean, traveling, animals, music, and being
silly and sassy to her children and grandchildren. She truly was the best Mom,
Grammie, Wife, Sister and Aunt to all, including all her bonus children over the years.

She is survived by her husband Mark of Barre, daughter Karyn Allen of Berlin and her
significant other Mike, son Joshua Sturtevant and his wife Tania of Morrisville,
grandchildren JC, Peyton and Katelynn, her sister Jane Nuse of Johnson, nieces and
nephews Anna, Kyle, Zac, Kim, Brynn and their children. She was predeceased by her
parents, and a twin sister. Judy will be missed dearly by all her friends and family.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers please consider a
donation in Judy’s name to a humane society or animal rescue of your choice.

Pruneau-Polli Funeral Home of Barre assisted the family.
