BARRE – Kay S. (Tucker) Griggs, 74, a lifelong resident of Barre, passed away at Central Vermont Medical Center on January 28, 2026 following a brief illness. Her brother Mark was with her when she passed.
Kay was born on March 26, 1951 in Barre, daughter of Everett D. and Frances M. Tucker. She resided at Velie Avenue in Barre with her parents and younger twin brothers, Mark and David. Her parents were both deceased – Everett in 2002 and Frances in 2004 - and David passed away in March 2025.
Kay attended schools in Barre Town and Spaulding High School, graduating in June 1969. Following graduation, she worked at the Bridge Division of the Vermont Highway Department for a number of years before retiring on disability. Throughout her life she was deeply involved in caring for animals, and for a number of years operated a transport service for farm animals to the stock auctions in Thetford, VT. She inherited her mother’s wide interest in nature, and together they enjoyed yard sales on the weekends. She was an astute collector of antique crystal salt dishes and later collected ceramic cat figurines.
Kay is survived by her brother Mark and his wife Cathy of No. Danville. The family has been blessed for seventy years by the love and caring of their Velie Avenue neighbors Dottie and Moe Fortier and their six children. Throughout the later years Kay benefitted from the love and support of her friend Diana Peduzzi.
There will be no calling hours or funeral. Kay will be interred later this spring at Hope Cemetery in a private service.
Pruneau & Polli funeral home in Barre is assisting. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Central Vermont Humane Society.
