Laurette Leclerc, a long-time resident of Barre, passed away peacefully and in the presence of her two daughters, on Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at Barre Gardens. Born in Compton Station, Quebec on October 10, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Mederic and Delia (Poulin) Veilleux. Mom grew up on a farm in Compton with her parents and 9 siblings where she attended school in a one-room schoolhouse. At the age of 11 years old, she was taken out of school to care for her younger siblings. This was a huge sacrifice for her at an early age as she loved school, often getting in trouble for using her father’s college textbooks to teach her dolls “school”. As an adult in Canada, Mom worked at a glove manufacturing company for two years before meeting the love of her life, Paul Leclerc, who was working on the farm next door.
