BARRE-Lina Bernadette (Gagné) Metivier, 91, passed away on the evening of August 5th, 2026 with her family by her side, holding her. She was born October 8th, 1934 in Weedon, Québec to parents Ovila and Dahlia Gagné.

Lina married the love of her life, Leo Joseph Metivier, on August 2nd, 1952, at the age of 18. They had 4 kids that they raised in Canada until their move to Barre, Vermont in 1967. Once here, they created a cherished life for themselves and their children.

Lina and Leo were proud owners of Metivier Care Home in Barre for 50 years. After Leo’s passing in 2005, Lina continued operating the care home. She devoted herself to providing comfort, dignity, and care for those who needed it the most. She continued serving others in this way until her well-earned retirement at the extraordinary age of 85.

Outside of her work, Lina found joy in traveling, camping, sporting games, and quality family time. Her favorite place to travel was close to home at Old Orchard Beach, where her and her family would vacation every summer. Lina was the happiest surrounded by her friends and family, whether it was gathering around her kitchen table, sharing stories, laughing, holidays, or just stopping in for a visit.

Lina will be remembered as a woman whose life was defined by love, generosity, and dedication to others. She had a special ability to make everyone feel welcomed and cared for, and her compassionate heart touched countless lives throughout her years. Although she will be deeply missed, her legacy shines through in the family that she cherished- all of her kids, grandkids, and great grandkids.

Surviving family members include children Mario Metivier of Barre, VT, Marlene Murray of Graniteville, VT, and Sylvain Metivier of Barre, VT. Grandchildren Chris Murray (Lindsey) of Barre, VT, Nathan Murray of Barre, VT, Derek Metivier of Barre VT, Joshua Metivier of Indiana, Brittney Roberts (Ryan) of Barre, VT, Hannah Maxfield (David) of W. Topsham, VT, and Samantha Fong (Ken) of North Carolina. Great-grandchildren Tyler, Mackenzie, and Paige Murray, Chase and Connor Murray, Arlo, River, and Iyla Metivier, Addison Lapointe and Finley Maxfield, and Rowyn Roberts.

Lina was predeceased by her loving husband Leo Metivier, son Claude Metivier, parents Ovila and Dahlia, siblings René, Iréne, and Flora.

A graveside service will be held at Hope Cemetery on Saturday August 22nd at 11am . There will be a reception to follow at the Barre Elks Club (downstairs). Per her request there will be no calling hours.
