RICHFORD/EAST BARRE/NORTHFIELD- Lulah passed away on Friday June 13, 2025, at CVMC in the Palliative Care Unit surrounded by her family.
Born on March 23, 1937, in St. Albans Vt, she was the daughter of Mildred (Sicard) Combs and Delbert Combs Sr.
She graduated from Richford High School in 1955 and married Cedric Lavery on December 22, 1955. Lulah wore many hats, such as working for Dr. William Towle DDS after high school, a dairy farmer, and was a homemaker for many years as they raised three daughters. Her later career, after the passing of her husband, was in the school system where she taught the Wilson Reading Program at the high school level. Lulah was in her element at school and was beloved by all her students.
Lulah was a “wicked big Red Sox fan” as well as an avid quilter, belonging to the Montgomery and Barre Quilt Guilds. With love, she donated annually a queen-sized quilt for 24 years to benefit the Travis Mercy Memorial Skatepark in memory of her grandson, not counting the many gifted quilts, pillows and wall hangings to family and friends.
Remaining to cherish Lulah’s memory are her children: Linda (Lavery) Mercy and her spouse Harry Hinrichsen, Cindy (Lavery) McKenney and her spouse Kenny, Lisa (Lavery) Juley and her spouse Jason; Grandchildren Keith McKenney and Madeline Juley; Great-Grandchildren Grace, Logan, and Julian McKenney; Siblings Melvin Combs, Lorraine Jewett, Nadine Wetherby and Delbert Combs Jr. and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding Lulah in death is her spouse Cedric, grandson Travis Mercy, son-in-law Dale Mercy, her parents Mildred and Delbert Combs Sr. and brother Ronald Combs.
