Manuel Miana Jr. BARRE – Manuel Miana Jr, 96, of Barre, passed away on August 30, 2024 after a short stay where he was surrounded by friends and family in a room full of love in palliative care at Central Vermont Medical Center. His niece was by his side as he took his final breath on Earth and entered eternal life. Manuel was born on May 7, 1928, in Barre, Vermont, the son of Eugenia (Perojo) and Manuel Miana. After graduating from high school at Spaulding, Manuel went to work for his family’s granite shed, Usle & Perojo as a draftsman. When the family business closed in the early 1970’s he continued his work as a draftsman at LaCross Memorials until his retirement. Manuel had the artistic and precise drawing skills and talents to design and draw out several of the beautiful granite designs we see in Barre cemeteries today. After retirement, he worked some part time jobs into his 80’s, including driving and delivering for Green Mountain Messenger which he greatly enjoyed. He was a man of great faith and a lifetime member of St. Monica Parish in Barre where he received all of his sacraments. He served as an usher Sunday mornings for many years and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Taking after his mother, Manuel had a love of gardening and spent many summers tending flower and vegetable gardens with her and continued after her passing. He took great pride in carrying on the tradition of growing tall and abundant pole beans and continued through this summer with the help of his dear friend and neighbor, Bobby. He had a love for all sports, enjoyed playing in his youth, and enjoyed following the New York Yankees in baseball, New England Patriots in football, and NCAA College basketball and football. As an advocate for youth sports, he loved to visit with his young nephews and learn about their achievements in sports and school. He was a generous man who made many selfless acts including donating blood through the American Red Cross every other month throughout his eligible years. He was a member of the Barre Tournament Committe, and volunteered his time for over fifty years running the time clock at the Barre Auditorium. He received recognition for his volunteer work in 1992 by the Barre Joint Service Clubs. Survivors include his sister-in-law, Loucille Miana, of Barre, Vermont; nieces, Mary Johnson of Slingerlands, New York, Julie Dutil and her husband, Norman of Barre, Vermont, Donna Griffith and her fiancé, Mark Marshall of Lake George, New York; Great nieces and nephews, Sarah (Seth) Piontek and their children Samuel and Ryan, Rebecca (Dan) Somaini and their children Carter and Manuel, Matthew (Corinne) Johnson and their children Caleb, Julian, and Jonah, Jennifer (Sam) Comini, Mary-Francis (Matt) Byrne and their children Noah and Hudson, and Emily (Will Heath) Griffith and their child Mitchell. He was predeceased by his parents, Eugenia and Manuel Miana, two brothers, Julian Miana, and Joseph Miana, a sister, Maria del Carmen Miana, one nephew, Manuel Miana, and many aunts and uncles. Our Special thanks to Bobby Belville, Pearl Bugbee, Father Leo Bilodeau, and Julie from Central Vermont Home Health, as well as those who took such loving care of him in his final hours; Barre City EMT’s, CVMC Emergency Room Staff, and the CVMC Palliative Care Staff. A Mass of Christian Burial and celebration of his life will be held on Friday, September 6, 2024 at 11 a.m. at St. Monica Catholic Church in Barre. Per Manuel’s wish, there will be no calling hours.
