BARRE - Our beloved father, Perry W. Browning III, affectionately known as Pop-Pop, has joined his beautiful wife Nancy, where they will spend eternity together.
Perry was born an only child to Perry W. Browning II and Mary Sinclair Browning, on February 1, 1938, in Washington, DC. This is where he spent his childhood, including meeting Nancy in the third grade. He later graduated from St. John College High School and then from the University of Maryland, where he remained a lifelong Terrapin fan.
After marrying the love of his life, Nancy Twombly, on June 11, 1960, his work took them to New Jersey where they started their family. Along came Mark, Kevin and Brian. They weren’t done yet, he whisked his growing family off to Wisconsin, where Sean joined the Browning bunch. Their final move brought them to Vermont, their forever home, and their first and only daughter, Carol.
Perry built a beautiful life for his family in Barre, Vermont. He became plant manager at Sprague Electric. In the late eighties, Sprague was due to close and transfer Perry and family to Florida. He had other plans. From this moment, SB Electronics was born and the Orange Drop Capacitor lived on. This new company employed over one hundred people throughout central Vermont. These people became more than employees to Perry, they became his work family, where they shared meals, celebrations and gatherings.
As important as work was to Perry, his family always came first. Little did he know, he was setting the precedent for the Browning family motto, Family Over Everything (FOE). He was continuously involved in his children's lives, including boy scouts, little league baseball, school board, project graduation, CCD and let’s not forget, he rarely missed a sporting event or family dinner.
Perry and Nancy were deeply religious and involved in St. Monica Church, where he served as a eucharistic minister. He served on various boards, involved in the Kiwanis Club, Meals on Wheels, Marriage Encounter and so much more. His impact on the community was very deep.
Later in life, he and Nancy traveled the world together. They sold their home in Barre and spent summers at their Lyford Pond camp and winters at their condo in Venice, FL. Finally setting their roots even deeper at home, as grandchildren began to arrive. First came Alicia and Markus, then Kailen and Kevin Thomas, then Ian, Reed and Mae, then Aaron and Aidan and last but not least Perry and Will. How blessed he was to witness the arrival of his great granddaughters, Rosie May (Alicia & Vinny) and Luellen Nancy (Markus & Quinn). He left this earth with a very full heart.
Perry’s legacy was quiet, unassuming but extremely meaningful. He touched countless lives during his journey on earth and will be missed by all who knew him.
Perry and Nancy leave behind their greatest treasures, Mark/Cindy, Kevin/Rhonda, Brian/Tammy, Sean/Ann, Carol/Greg, eleven grandchildren and two great daughters. .
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11am on Friday June 13th at St. Monica Church in Barre. There will be a rosary service at 10am, prior to the service, at Pruneau-Polli Funeral Home. There will be no reception after the mass. The family will be gathering at Lyford Pond to celebrate his life. In lieu of flowers we ask that donations be made to Central VT Home Health and Hospice in Perry’s name.
