BARRE – Richard J. Deep, 93, of Barre, passed away on April 6, 2025, at Chestnut Place in Berlin, VT. He was born September 6, 1931, in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada, to Paul and Susie Deep. His family moved to Barre in 1932. Richard attended St. Monica School and Spaulding High School graduating in 1950.
In his early years, Richard was involved in the automotive field. In 1968, he joined the family business, Genoa Grinder CO. which he sold in 1992. He then became a volunteer at Central Vermont Medical Center in the Emergency Department. In 1998, he began work as an Emergency Room Technician with CVMC and retired in 2013. Richard was also an on-call fireman for Barre City for 17 years and retired as Captain. As a constant volunteer and community member Richard was a member of the Knights of Columbus, where he was a Grand Knight and faithful navigator of the 4th degree. He was also a member of the Barre City Planning Commission for 35 years. His other hobbies included hunting and cross-country skiing.
Richard married Agatha Stone on May 4, 1957. They have two sons Robert (Laurie) Deep and Bryan (Tina) Deep and four grandchildren; Ryan, Amanda, Jordan, and Nolan and a great-granddaughter Chloe. He was predeceased by his parents, sisters Marie Kelley and Pauline Blain, brother David Deep, and wife Agatha.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, April 28, 2025, at 11:00 am, at St. Monica Church in Barre with a burial to follow at St. Monica Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, April 27, 2025, from 4-6 pm at Pruneau-Polli Funeral Home. Casual attire is welcomed.
