Russell C. Edson Jr.

WORCESTER- Russell Charles Edson, 70, of Worcester, Vermont passed away in his home unexpectedly on March 11, 2023. He was born on May 27, 1952, to Russell Charles Sr and Eleanor Theresa Connelly Edson in Harlem, New York. The family lived in Bethpage, New York where he attended Island Trees High School and in 1968 the family moved to Brookfield, Vermont where in 1970 he graduated from Randolph Union High School. He was married to Polly Ann Hazen from 1973 to 1978 when they parted ways. He met his current wife, Marla Jean Tewksbury in 1978 and they were married on July 2, 1988. Russell was a devoted employee of the family business Northeast Granite Company, where he worked alongside his parents, brothers, and sister. He enjoyed South Florida, where the family visited annually while working together. He took pride in his ability to scuba dive and fish while there and encouraged his siblings to learn about these hobbies as well. He spent free time in the summers at the family camp in Broadalbin, New York which eventually became his own second home. He loved handicapping the ponies and making bets at the Saratoga Racetrack. He was an avid hunter and looked forward to deer season each year with his father, brothers and his Uncle, Joe Cerasoli. Russell was a big fan of the TV series “Sea Hunt” as a kid, which developed into his love of scuba diving in Florida and California where he attended Scripps Institution of Oceanography in San Diego. He was a true Rock & Roll fan who attended the Woodstock Festival in 1969 and had many great stories he enjoyed sharing about that experience. When Worcester celebrated the 50th Anniversary of this Festival as their 4th of July theme, Russell along with two other gentlemen in the community who had also been there, served as the Grand Marshalls in the parade. As Russell aged, you would usually find him at his home he built with Marla. The couple became parishioners of the Worcester United Methodist Church, where they worshiped passionately and did all they could to support anyone in need in the community. Through the church, Russell volunteered as a Meals On Wheels driver for many years. Though Russell and Marla did not have children of their own, they have always been an integral part of the lives of their nieces and nephews. Russell was a committed Godfather to his nephews Christopher Edson and Timothy Edson whom both deeply value that relationship to this day. Marla's dedication to Russell was palpable and she was there by his side through their relationship of 45 years until the very last day. He will be a missed member of his church, his family and his community. He will be brought into open arms of Jesus and all the loved ones that are waiting for him in Heaven. He is survived by his wife, Marla Tewksbury Edson, brothers Gary Edson and wife Patty Edson, William Edson and wife Terri Edson, his sister Kathleen Edson Davidson and many nieces and nephews, brothers and sisters in law. He was predeceased by his parents and brothers, Brian Edson and Guy Edson. Services will be held at the Worcester United Methodist Church on Route 12 in Worcester, Vermont on Saturday, May 27, 2023, at 11:00 am.
